Return to Diego Garcia

Regular visitors to the Japan Years blog may remember back in August 2008, when I posted about my first trip ever south of the equator, to the British Indian Ocean Territory island of Diego Garcia. Last month, I had the opportunity to visit for my second time, as part of my 2009 travel-like-crazy for work plans (part of the reason this blog isn't being updated so frequently).

This second trip was much shorter than the first, which didn't allow me too much time to enjoy the scenic beauty of the island, but I was able to escape for a few hours here and there to visit some of my favorite spots.

Pictures are posted in the Gallery under the date 05/21/2009, or click here. Sometimes, I can't believe I get paid for this stuff...

I picked the wrong job - I never get paid to see anything exciting! Looks like an incredible spot. Thanks for sharing and making us desk jockeys jealous.

When I looked at the larger version of the photo you posted, I honestly checked to see if it looked as though it had been Photoshopped - it looks that amazing there.

You are one lucky guy.

Jen, the vast majority of my work life is spent as a desk jockey. These kinda trips are rare...

Steph, in all honesty, I did use photoshop to remove some of the shadows on my face, but the sunny backdrop and clear blue water is 100% real.

I agree, it does look like you were cut and pasted into a postcard in that picture! Although I've never been there, looks like my dear hubby may end up being stationed there for a few months next year. We'll have to pick your brain for the inside scoop on what to do on such small island (and I thought Guam was small)! Thans for posting about your trip. :-)
