Help!

What would be a nice traditional Japanese gift for a new baby? I'd be sending it overseas. I tried to look for something online but I've had no luck.

I don't know if it's traditional but Japanese baby clothes are adorable. The little kimono style wrap clothes are unique, easy to use, and simply unavailable in the States. Maybe clothes with something symbolic for good luck . . . maybe with the baby's Chinese zodiac sign? Just a thought.

Thanks for the ideas Sharon. I do have to go to the Mall and check out the clothing that they have there a little closer. It seems as though I can only American style clothing. I've got to look at several more malls. :)

I recall seeing kimono shops in many places in Shinjuku. Unfortunately, I wasn't really concerned, so I don't remember the exact locations. I do recall one being within at most a block of Shinjuku Station... but that is the largest and busiest train station in the entire world, so that's not a massively specific area. I want to say it's near the Odakyu Dept. Store in the station. Of course, you guys are way down there in Kanagawa Prefecture, so that probably doesn't help you :(

Thanks for all the requests. Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on your perspective, most Japanese babies are dressed in the same clothing as us Americans for the most part. Kristin, for example, if you wanted to get Savannah a traditional Japanese Kimono, it would run you about 300 US dollors. It's only for special occassions and holidays that they would where it. Not for everyday! Traditional baby Kimono might be a little too pricey but thanks for the suggestion. I'm going to try and look for something this weekend when I have more time to go out shopping.

Yes, the traditional Kimono are so beautiful. Unfortunately we are going to miss the cut off date for Josh to be here during the 3-5-7 holiday. It's when children ages 3-5-7 years dress up in Kimono or fancy western clothing and visit shrines. I went to the mall close buy and found what is probably an equivilant to a onepiece "onsie" as we'd call them in the states. Only this one was a little onsie kimono. Not to expensive at all and very unique. They even gift wrapped it! (In traditional Japanese retail style)
